DIVIDE’S NEW MAYOR IS A REAL PIT BULL

April 9th, 2010, 9:03 am by

Just when you thought politics couldn’t get any weirder…

A three-legged dog beat a three-legged cat to take the post of mayor of Divide.

Here she is… Mayor Spright!  A pit bull mix with pizazz.

Walter the orange tabby, who lost by a nose, is vice mayor:

The election had 25 candidates - four Republi-cats and 21 Dog-ocrats – on the ballot.  Voters paid $1 a vote. The gig raised $14,084 for Teller County Regional Animal Shelter.  Hot dog!

There is more …  but you’ll have to wait to read the live coverage by Gazette reporter Maria Sanchez of the inauguration noon Sunday, April 11, at the shelter, 308 Weaverville Road in Divide. The public is invited.

Dr. Lisa Berg, owner of The Mobile Pet Vet in Divide, was the mastermind of the “Mighty Sprighty” campaign.

Here is Bad Poem Week 2 (her title, not mine)

There once was a 3-legged dog named Sprighty,
Although she was small, she knew she was mighty;
She decided one day to do something grand;
Said she, “I will become Mayor and rule the land!”
She sought out the votes with Dr. Lisa her slave;
So grateful were they for the votes people gave;
Will her efforts be rewarded, will she be elected?
Only time will tell, when the votes are collected!

Could you use an extra $100,000?

February 19th, 2010, 3:51 pm by

Who couldn’t use $100,000?

But there ’s a catch.

First you have to risk losing a whopping $2.

Colorado Lottery’s $2 MatchPlay tickets go on sale Sunday. It’s the state’s first new jackpot game in nine years.

You get three lines of six numbers for your $2 investment. Six numbers across the top line pays the jackpot. Cha-ching!

Whoa, don’t get too excited yet. Your odds of winning the top prize are 1-in-2,760,681.

You can also win $2-to-$1,000 by other matching combinations. Overall odds of at least getting your two bucks back are 1-in-6. Better odds than those $1 state lottery jackpot games,

MatchPlay drawings are 7:40 p.m. Tuesday and Friday. The  $100,000 jackpot increases by at least $10,000 per drawing until hit.

With this new game – and all the medical marijuana joints popping up  - the state of Colorado should be rolling in some form of the green stuff soon.
