Just when you thought politics couldn’t get any weirder…
A three-legged dog beat a three-legged cat to take the post of mayor of Divide.
Here she is… Mayor Spright! A pit bull mix with pizazz.
Walter the orange tabby, who lost by a nose, is vice mayor:

The election had 25 candidates - four Republi-cats and 21 Dog-ocrats – on the ballot. Voters paid $1 a vote. The gig raised $14,084 for Teller County Regional Animal Shelter. Hot dog!
There is more … but you’ll have to wait to read the live coverage by Gazette reporter Maria Sanchez of the inauguration noon Sunday, April 11, at the shelter, 308 Weaverville Road in Divide. The public is invited.

Dr. Lisa Berg, owner of The Mobile Pet Vet in Divide, was the mastermind of the “Mighty Sprighty” campaign.
Here is Bad Poem Week 2 (her title, not mine)
There once was a 3-legged dog named Sprighty,
Although she was small, she knew she was mighty;
She decided one day to do something grand;
Said she, “I will become Mayor and rule the land!”
She sought out the votes with Dr. Lisa her slave;
So grateful were they for the votes people gave;
Will her efforts be rewarded, will she be elected?
Only time will tell, when the votes are collected!
